Guerrilla Sound Challenge

USITT 2013 Guerrilla Sound Challenge - Nathan Prouty from Vincent Olivieri on Vimeo.

During the 2013 USITT conference in Milwaukee Wisconsion I took part in the Guerrilla Sound Challenge. I was given a video and had to create a sound design for it in three hours. I could not use any prerecorded sounds. I had to record, mix, and master all the sounds for the video in the three hour time frame. For the video I focused on the constant motion. The motion theme instantly reminded me of the flow of the city streets around me. I used the soundscape of the city for most of the project and added in different audio plugins enhance the overall flow of the video. Here is more information and entries of the Guerrilla Sound Chalenge.

3662 Hip Hop EP

My friend Collin Doerr-Newton and I made a hip hop EP. Since it was his idea he was in charge of the project but I helped with all the aspects of the production. We collaborated every step of the way. Eat Lightning, Crap Thunder was the song I had the largest factor in because I composed the beat. The 3 song EP can be heard here. I was also the bassist for all of the songs.

The Darkness Box by by Ursula K. Le Guin

This is an excerpt from Ursula K. Le Guin's The darkness box. I mainly focused on the sound design while Collin Doerr-Newton worked on the underscore. The full production can be heard here.

Superior Winds Recording

I was the recording engineer for the Fall 2012 Superior Winds concert. Here are some clips from the songs they performed. My favorite song was with a special guest singer that used overtone singing. I used a microphone great for the recording but it did not work as well for the live performance. The mixing engineer wanted higher levels for the voice and in doing so he created feedback during the song. I used iZotope RX3 plugins to remove the feedback. The remove hum plugin helped greatly and the denoiser helped remove some of the crowd sounds.

Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra and Concert Choir Dona Nobis Pacem Concert

I helped record mix and master Keweenaw Symphony Orchestra and Concert Choir Dona Nobis Pacem Concert. There was an orchestral section and a choir concert. At the end they performed Dona Nobis Pachem together. I worked with both conductors during the mixing stage to the the mix they wanted.

Waisting Time by Courtney Schumaker

I produced, recorded, and mixed this song. This helped me become familiar with these multiple aspects of making a song.

Fugue with Sculpture

While learning about fugues I was inspired to create this. Logic's Sculpture was the main instrumentation.

Blood on the Dance Floor Remix

The band Blood on the Dance Floor put their song Unforgiven on Indaba to be remixed. This is my remix and for it I created more dynamic contrast throughout the song and more builds and releases.

Chariots of Fire

I took the midi file of Chariots Of Fire and changed the typical midi instruments to sounds created in Logic's Sculpture and East West.
